So, I've been lagging on those picks for weeks now. I didn't even intend to read any today but it just happened (how nice!). I woke up from a quick cat nap after work and I wanted to check some emails. Since it's my homepage, the daily stories on the site popped up. Maybe it was my hunger taking over, but subconsciously, I clicked on the first thing I saw. It was like the entire screen went fuzzy and the only pictures my eyes automatically went to were the three articles lined up on the side... what were the pictures of? Beer, a wedding cake, and a cupcake. Hmmm... I think my stomach and my mind are telling me something. Anywho, they were all pretty quick reads, and informative.
The beer article really made me want to either try all of the ones described, or brew my own... the way it was described really changes the outlook I had about beer. It's not just a drink, it's an art! It's true the way the author described people who drink beer; generally, they say "let's go get some cold beers." Some beers even have a "cold enough to drink" temperature identifier on the can!! I thought it was a great article because it shows you the other side of beer. Instead of the beer getting the best of you (which is the case most of the time)... it's something to enjoy where the person drinking it can get the best of the beer. I am now a bit more educated on "beer facts" than I was before. I can't wait to have a little taste test myself and really getting to "know" the beer this summer! I'll be all over Europe trying different types of Beers! Hmm, that gives me an idea... maybe I'll try a different beer ever day and see which I like better and from which cities have the best in my opinion (if they offer it... who knows, wine is definitely a popular beverage of choice). Anyway, that's months from now.
I thought it was quite fitting and ironic at the same time after reading the DIY wedding cake article. For one, my sister is planning her wedding, and yesterday she asked me to make her mock-wedding cake (don't worry, people will not be eating styrofoam). I thought it was an entirely clever idea. Do you know how much those 5 tiered cakes cost?!?!? Too many figures in that number to list. It's expensive. It's memorable, and it's definitely nice but it also costs a pretty penny. Well, to expedite that entire process of having to find a baker, a decorator, a this, that, and the other... she's having me create the mock-up wedding cake. Okay so I'm not making the entire wedding cake, but it'll be the centerpiece and mostly photographed. Think of it the "cake for show". Basically, it will look and feel like a cake, but it's not a real cake underneath it's pretty exterior that I will create. After that's been presented the guests will have their pick of the flavor they would like. That cake will be cut (in the back) and brought out (nobody will know unless they read this). I've never done this before but I figure I'd like to help with something, and I think this is a lot more fun than some of the other things that I could have been asked to do. So until I get more info on the cake-endeavors, I will start to think of shapes, sizes, and colors! Pretty sweet.
CUPCAKES! I haven't had one of those in a LONG time. After reading an article on health conscious dessert lovers, I really felt like the complete opposite. The recipes sounded pretty interesting, and really tasty, but I think it's just the state I'm in at the moment (hungry hungry hungry and not really caring where it's from or whether or not I'm going to feel guilty or not). I do take into consideration those things on a regular basis, but I feel the urge (maybe even the need) to not care tonight. I deserve it? I hate to think of food that way. I feel like I should go back and delete that last statement like I never ever typed it out... but I'll go with it. Deserve it? Shoot, everyone deserves food! I must be going crazy! I do want to stay healthy and not eat things that are obviously dripping with fat and non-sense. I'd like to say that I'm a semi-health conscious eater. This would be my over all outlook on grocery shopping that isn't necessarily based on the fat/saturated fat/sugar/ trans-fat content on the label; It's quite simple for me actually. Since I already know what types of foods are generally healthier for you, that's what I go towards without even thinking about it anymore. For instance: iceberg lettuce vs. romaine or mixed greens. I'm pretty sure everyone knows that iceberg lettuce has it's bite but not much bark (so to speak). Other examples: Wheat vs. white (it's also more flavorful in my opinion), almond milk & soy vs. whole milk (regular whole/ dairy milk makes my stomach turn anyway) plus the two alternatives are better for you in different ways that milk is not- again, it tastes better. Hmm, I already love vegetables and fruits so it's usually the first thing I grab when I'm at the market.
I don't think I need to go on with that list any further. I've come to the realization that I generally just like foods that don't leave a film of fat in my mouth, that isn't too sweet or too salty depending on the dish, that isn't something unidentifiable, that I can't pronounce, and that doesn't leave me feeling uneasy (not necessarily guilty); Heck, if i saw a chocolate cake sitting there looking all delicious, you better believe I'll buy it. Although the cupcakes and sweet treats in the stores are tasty, I want to start making my own recipes... I think that would be a nice addition. In short, I just like good wholesome foods, that taste good- if it's good for my health, then great.
Wow- I'm even hungrier than I was before this! I NEED TO FEED MYSELF!
[The articles are posted! So read up and try some of the recipes!... I'll try and do the same]
