"They're short, highly emotional people who don't know anything. They rely on their creativity and imagination to get by in the world... a world, I might add, filled with giants...
an amazing feat."
"You want to know something cool
about shaking hands with little people?
They see us shaking hands, but they don't know that we squeeze the other person's hand. So they just hold hands with you for a couple of seconds"
[These are two quotes taken from the movie I watched today, The Answer Man. I didn't know what to think at first, but it was a pleasant surprise. There were a lot of blunt and witty lines that Arlen (the main character) responded to about various questions people asked and encounters he had. His answers made so much sense with such a small handful of words- he basically answered a "complex question" in less than 20 words and made it understandable... impressive. The book that this entire movie is based off of is a book that he wrote 20 years prior titled, "Me and God". The title would have thrown me off, and I probably wouldn't have watched it if the movie was titled the same as the book it was based off of, anyway, I thought the explanations were equally thoughtful and logical. I'm not going to veer off onto an entirely different topic since it's hard to explain, but it was smart.
Not the typical comedy about romance, but instead, it was about life. I liked it because I could relate to every one of the character's traits. Pretty interesting. Usually, there's one character that I can relate to in some way (either a small or significant way) but with this film, it caught me off guard because there was a little piece of each character that I clicked with. Strange. It's one of those movies that makes you think about what was said if you really listen closely to the dialogue. It's not as "heavy" as I'm making it out to be since technically, it's a comedy, but there was a nice balance (don't worry, you'll be laughing more than you'll be sobbing).]
