Irony at it's best

So in class tonight, I was supposed to sketch out ideas for my second project... It's supposed to be a self portrait. The problem was that I didn't know where to start! It was really frustrating for the first 30 minutes because I sat there in the freezing classroom unable to come up with anything. All I kept thinking was how glad I was that I wasn't sitting outside trying to sketch out an idea... I would have just died right there on the ground because of the weather.

So. I thought... I thought some more... and more... and even more...

How is it so hard for me to figure out what I could represent as a self portrait for myself. I mean, I know what I like, I know what I don't like, I know "who I am"... so what was it?! Well I knew I didn't want to go in a literal direction (artsy picture of me -lame... these people obviously know what I look like) and I didn't want to necessarily turn it into something super abstract where people would truly wonder "uhh... is she depicting herself as a Loch Ness monster?? orr, is she really just scatterbrained all the time and only sees marigold, teal and brown?" It was hard. Honestly though... If someone asked you to represent yourself in a self portrait... what would you do? It's too much to make a collage of absolutely everything you love (not to mention the amount of time it would take and the tediousness of that entire idea)... It seems like an easy way out for me too. That's not what I'm trying to pursue here.

This was my thought process for about 30 minutes while shuffling my Ipod from artist to artist. I really thought one of the songs would have given me a shot of inspiration (at least). I hoped that after listening to the songs that there would be a perfectly laid out plan of what I was going to make. Well it didn't quite work out that way, and with that, I am giving a "Thanks for nothing" tribute to Sufjan, Scott n' Seth, Sam, Jonsi and Neil. I found myself doodling and drawing really small flowers repeatedly all over my paper. That's usually the route that I take when I am creatively, artistically and/or imaginatively dull. Flowers are... uhh... pretty?... They're easy?... Colorful...???

So finally I flip through my sketch book and come across a stencil that my friend gave me last week. She claimed it was the most neglected of the bunch and that nobody used it because it was SO ugly and hideous to them. Pfft! I don't know what they were thinking! It was AMAZING... I LOVED IT! (that's why It's mine now).

FINALLY... A DESCENT THOUGHT! Yes! I'VE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS ALL NIGHT! This single idea eventually grew into another idea! Which naturally transformed into another idea! AHH NOW I HAVE TOO MANY IDEAS! THIS IS A PROBLEM! I CAN'T USE ALL OF THESE! I HAVE TO SAVE SOME FOR THE NEXT PROJECT! AHH FML!

(Oh deer, this is ironic)

QUICK QUESTION: WHY WAS IT SO HOT TODAY???? RECORD HEAT OF 113 DEGREES!? WHAT THE HECK!? NEAR THE COAST?! HUH!? AHHHHHHHHHH!!! I LITERALLY FELT LIKE I WAS BURNING EVERY SECOND OF THE DAY. THIS IS NOT OKAY!
